5 Tips for Caring for Your Straightener

My GHD hair straightener was built to last - that’s part of the reason why I chose to invest in this particular brand! Still, it’s important to take care of your GHD hair straightener if you want it to last for years or even decades to come. I know I would be a frizzy, hideous mess without my straightener, so here are 5 tips for caring for your flat iron:

Never wrap the cord around the flat iron (or anything else, for that matter). Instead of wrapping it and causing the cord to eventually fray and break away from the base, fold or coil it gently and lay it on top of or next to the flat iron in your storage case.
Yes, you need a storage case - it will keep your GHD hair straightener free of dirt, dust and other debris. If you choose a heatproof option, you can even throw it in there before it’s completely cooled down! Awesome if you travel a lot.
Unplug the straightener after every use. Leaving it plugged in is just asking for a disaster!
When in use, only set your straightener down on heatproof surfaces. You could potentially damage the iron AND your carpet or countertop if you don’t abide by this rule.
Finally, never submerge your straightener in water - even if it needs to be cleaned. To clean a flat iron, you need a special flat iron cleaning solution.
